Careers in water resources planning and management

Water resources careers in the early twenty-first century, particularly in planning and management, will offer great interest, large challenges, outstanding opportunities for peer recognition, and great personal satisfaction for young professionals. Rapid population growth, land-use changes, and perhaps global climatic change are among the factors that will place further demands on an already stressed global fresh-water supply and influence career directions of new water resource professionals.

NEW PUBLICATION: A World of Opportunities - Working in the International Water Sector

Free guidance to help shape early career decisions. A collaboration between IWA’s Young Water Professionals Programme, Water21 magazine and the my-water-career.com website, 'A world of opportunities - working in the water sector' is an annual publication being launched in 2008 that aims to provide valuable information for those making early career decisions. Containing articles covering key issues affecting the water sector and profiles of individuals working within it, 'A world of opportunities - working in the water sector' will highlight the significance of the sector and the diversity of career opportunities that exist.

Water and wastewater utilities and other organisations in the sector face a recruitment challenge. There is an ageing workforce, whose skills and expertise need to be handed on to a new generation. At the same time, the sector needs to attract the brightest talent from an ever-widening range of disciplines. This talent is needed to deliver solutions to the issues faced in the sector and to respond to the business opportunities these present.

Contents include:

  • overview articles on key issues affecting the water sector, underlining the value of a career in water
  • articles highlighting the many different aspects of working in the sector
  • short profiles of individuals already working in the sector
  • directory section providing details of major water sector employers
