Through this innovative hybrid training program that combines classroom training, mentoring and fieldwork, participating interns gain invaluable real-world, hands-on experience and concrete energy auditing and project management skills that are applicable across a wide spectrum of career opportunities in the emerging green economy. Once trained, the interns are then organized in small teams and assigned to a geographically specific zone within the target neighborhood. Each team is assigned a mentor—a green professional with experience in a relevant field—to help advise and coordinate the group, as well as contractor partner. The teams are then responsible for reaching out to small storefront businesses in their respective zones to make them aware of the many energy incentive programs and low-cost energy solutions available to them. Interns also offer the small business to perform a free walk-through energy audit, or schedule a professional energy audit, in order to evaluate their energy consumption, costs and related green house gas (GHG) emissions. Once a business is engaged, the interns become their green account managers, responsible for helping them apply for incentive programs, implement recommendations, procure green products and services, and market their green efforts to the public. Requirements: Commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week for 6 weeks (off work hours - nights & weekends). Complete 30-Hour Intensive Boot Camp Training 2 weekends - (May 7th & 8th and 14th & 15^th). Attend weekly Classes (3 hours / week, on Weds nights from 6 – 9pm). Attend weekly team meetings (1 hour / week). Complete at least 5 audits over the course of the program. Work in a team to create a Zone Needs Assessment Report.
