Here's good news: New Jersey business owners are optimistic.

Seven out of ten New Jersey business executives said they expect their companies' business to improve over the next 12 months, according to a flash survey conducted yesterday by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and Sovereign Bank.

Funded by a Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) Grant NJ Greenhouse is an online resource developed with a REDI grant that aims to create a clearinghouse of information for green career development, job information, training, and education all related to the "green jobs" sector in and around New Jersey.

We recently covered a solar industry report showing that solar power in Q2 of 2011 grew considerably and many jobs came with that, but there were more interesting points in that report as well. According to this report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and GTM Research, New Jersey has surpassed California as the hottest and largest commercial solar market.

Though most employers aren't adding jobs at a quick pace, positions tied to sustainability and renewable energy might be a bright spot.

A few large companies recently created positions for so-called chief sustainability officers, who report to the chief executive or chief operating officer, and are responsible for making sure their companies save energy and are environmentally responsible. Some of these CSOs have beefed up hiring for "green" jobs.

(Monterey, CA June 7, 2011) Acclaimed green marketing expert Jacquie Ottman got the attention of hundreds of Sustainable Brands '11 attendees tonight when she opened the conference by asserting, "Greenwash is not the real problem holding consumers back from getting more involved in sustainability." She went on to illustrate how greenwash is merely a symptom of the real problem - which is an immature industry 'eco-system'. "The 'eco-system' of stakeholders that supports us is not broken...it just hasn't matured around us. We have marketers who are inadvertently greenwashing because they don't know better and claims are not being enforced by government or retailers."
